The gap between an app and a person
Study apps get you to the point where you understand exercises and still cannot survive a conversation with someone who talks at normal speed. The usual advice is to find a language partner, which works right up until the first call, where the gap between your level and theirs makes the whole thing exhausting for both people.
Live translation removes the failure mode. You can attempt the sentence yourself, fall back when you get stuck, and the conversation keeps going instead of collapsing into apology.
Using it so you still learn
Turn captions on and read the original as well as the translation. Try the sentence in your target language first and let translation catch you when you miss. Tap messages to see what was actually written rather than only the translated version — noticing the difference between what you would have said and what a native speaker said is most of the learning.
Used the lazy way it is a crutch and you will not improve. That is a real risk and worth being honest with yourself about.
